ABSTRACT

The broadcasting structure contains four major elements: the regulating authorities, the networks, the stations, and the common carriers. The cable systems make up a separate category of broadcasting operations relaying television and radio signals, and originating some community service. The cable systems are basically extensions of television stations relaying broadcast signals. FM signals are also carried on cable relaying local FM broadcast service. Cable carries a community service channel for which it originates programming. The Canadian Overseas Telecommunications Corporation, which is responsible for Canada’s international cable and satellite operations and traffic, is a federal crown corporation. Some of the common carriers fall under federal regulation by the Canadian Transport Commission.
