ABSTRACT

The organisations engaged in day-to-day network broadcasting other than the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation are the CTV Television Network, Global Communications Limited, the Ontario Educational Communications Authority, and the Alberta Educational Communications Corporation. Established in 1936, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is required by statute to provide a comprehensive national service in radio and television to English and French-speaking Canadians. The CBC operates national radio and television networks in English and French. Canadians consider the CBC as one of the nation’s most important means of communication. Radio and television are divided and managed as separate media, each with its own programme, technical, administrative and budget responsibilities. Over the years, the CBC has had an open and informal approach to staff recruitment.
