ABSTRACT

The RTE Authority which is the sole body with statutory responsibility for broadcasting in Ireland, consists of 7 to 9 members, including the chairman. While Authority members see themselves as trustees for the public, they act in a personal capacity and not as representing specific areas of public life. RTE management structures have changed on several occasions since 1960, reflecting changing priorities in the service. The Director of Engineering is responsible for the technical system and for the organisation, maintenance and development of buildings and technical equipment. The Financial Controller is responsible for planning and controlling the financial activities of RTE and for developing and maintaining a management information service based on appropriate accounting and analytical techniques. In addition to the national radio and television services, RTE has established a separate Irish-language radio service.
