ABSTRACT

Chapter 7 is devoted to the analysis of medium legal institutions of memory through the application of the new framework. The author studies lustration on the cases of Iraq and Poland and truth commissions on the example of Brazil. In regard to the former institution, he first provides both the context and steps of the implementation of de-Ba’athification, moving on to the Polish lustration and showing the changes introduced to the system even today. Regarding the latter institution, the Brazilian truth commission is analysed as a recent addition to the intersections of law and memory, with the author showing its innovative “commissionism.”
