ABSTRACT

Like other religions, Confucianism is the outcome of the manner of life and temperament of the people among whom it arose. Of the religions that exist in the world today, Judaism, although not one of the largest in the number of its adherents, is certainly one of the most important, both in itself and as the parent both of Christianity and Islam. Judaism can be very differently estimated as practised by different exponents. Judaism is one of the great monotheistic religions which recognise in God the omnipotent Creator and Ruler of all things, who demands the entire obedience of mankind to His Law; an obedience to be willingly given as He is the Righteous One whose service consists in righteousness of life. In the open warfare that followed the Jews obtained mastery over the greater part of Palestine, and a Jewish State—a new ‘Israel’—has now been set up and its independence recognised.
