ABSTRACT

Many people who have gone through a Theory of Constraints (TOC) Jonah training session have come away somewhat overwhelmed and sometimes feeling like they are unable to apply what they have just learned. The hierarchical structure of the Goal Tree consists of a single Goal, several CSFs which must be in place to achieve the goal, and a series of Necessary Conditions (NCs) that must be in place to achieve each CSF. Variability can be a very difficult thing to overcome, especially if the people don’t understand the type of variability they are dealing with. The actions are color-coded to indicate the status. The completion dates for the goal and most actions are specified. For example, in the case of “Throughput Growth Greater Than 20% by 1/15/2014,” it is clear that the associated NC (Focus Improvement on the Constraint) must be in place in advance of that date.
