ABSTRACT
Taking several Indios as guides, Columbus hopes to train them as interpreters. The small fleet moves on to other islands, where two of the guides jump ship, escaping. The others remain with the fleet. The remaining guides tell Columbus stories of gold existing in larger nearby islands and the explorer pushes on, always interacting in a cordial manner when meeting and trading with Lucayans on several small islands of the Caribbean.
