ABSTRACT

Most likely due to his scientific background Revans expressed two root ideas about action learning as scientific-like formulae. The first is https://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> L > C https://s3-euw1-ap-pe-df-pch-content-public-p.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/9781003464440/cd91cac4-bdbe-478e-acff-7194f883436f/content/math2_1.tif" xmlns:xlink="https://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"/> where L is the rate of learning and C is the rate of change. This means that individuals and organisations need to be able to learn faster than things change if they are to have any hope of keeping up, surviving and prospering. Organisations that continue to embody the ideas of the past are not learning. Education and training programmes that make us proficient in yesterday's methods encourage us to “walk backwards into the future” and do not tell us what action to take when we meet a new challenge or opportunity.
