ABSTRACT
In the last chapter we spoke only of missions undertaken by the Western half of Christendom, but it must not be forgotten that considerable missionary work was accomplished by at least some branches of the Eastern Church. In order to understand the opportunities and limitations of this work it will be necessary to sketch the history of the Eastern Church from the sixteenth to the eighteenth centuries.
