ABSTRACT

Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, launched on 24 February 2022, built upon eight years of aggression by the Kremlin towards Kyiv, beginning with the invasion and subsequent annexation of Crimea in February–March 2014 in the aftermath of Ukraine’s pro-Western Revolution of Dignity. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine did not make any significant progress over the reporting period. The conflict continued to rage along several fronts in Ukraine’s south and east, with Russian drone and missile strikes threatening cities and infrastructure across Ukraine. The overwhelming majority of Ukraine’s attacks behind the front have targeted Russian military positions, largely with drones and occasional saboteur attacks. The countries supporting Ukraine have also enforced the largest coordinated international sanctions regime in modern history, targeting the Kremlin and its affiliated elites, military supplies and ability to continue to bankroll the war.
