ABSTRACT

Here we focus on India-based European naturalists and institutions who built a scientific reputation for themselves even while some others merely served European interests. As the colonial researchers carried out their work, the industrial revolution back home pressed for the quest for energy sources. This led to studies in Indian geology and surveys and exploration of the resources. A widening of activity veered the interests towards development in veterinary sciences, agriculture, and importantly, tea, etc., all to serve the British interests.
