ABSTRACT

The reference numbers given in this section are those of British Standard 2660:1955 (amended 1958 and 1966). These are now used by most leading paint manufacturers and those concerned professionally and in the trade. The B.S. provides an invaluable means of communication about colour and of preventing confusion (e.g. olive green may mean that of an olive on a cocktail stick or the silvery grey-green of an olive grove). It is not intended to help in the subtleties of colour decision itself. Colours should be selected from a fair sized sample, say 2 in. × 3 in. minimum of the same texture, e.g. gloss or matt, as that finally intended.
