ABSTRACT

Sustainability in supply chain is the key concern of businesses now, and logistics network needs to be evaluated keeping this issue in mind. The sustainability rating index such as SECH is intended to create environmental accountability in supply chain management. In other words, it would mean managing supply chain using available resources without compromising the future need. Transportation impacts sustainability in various ways including economic, social and environmental. Businesses need to follow the guidelines regarding depletion of non-renewable resources. As such to facilitate sustainable transportation, corporations can follow a set of simple sustainability indicators data which are easily obtainable such as vehicular pollution emission, fossil fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emission. There are several economic benefits that can be accrued from sustainable transportation. As such impacts on business is positive.
