ABSTRACT
When I was 11 years old I attended an end-of-term variety show at my primary school in South Africa. Top of the bill was ‘The Great Marco’, a popular stage hypnotist. The events that I witnessed in the school hall all those years ago made such a deep impression on me that I can still recall most of them in vivid detail.
