ABSTRACT
In considering the geographical contrasts in the great religions there is an occurrence so far superior in interest and so intricate that for the time all else must be set aside while we view this alone and unhurried. For Monotheism is territorial, absent—save in an occasional and passing way—from all the important faiths which arose in the Far East and still possess it. Its origin and sway have been in the Near Asia of the Jews, whence it passed into Islam and Christianity. The course of our present study would seem bounteous indeed if it helped us toward an understanding of this strangest of all the differences in the geography of faiths.
