ABSTRACT

Directly next to Tinley Park sits the Village of Orland Park. These villages are almost mirror images of each other in terms of population, racial composition, homeownership, and median household income. On the surface, both are mostly white, family-oriented suburbs in the southwestern Chicagoland area. The villages have even been linked to each other over the decades in numerous areas of policy as well. For example, during the 1990s, the villages created a joint economic committee to help coordinate economic development within the Interstate Highway 80 corridor (Presecky, 1997), and in early 2022, their respective police forces created a joint task force during a string of thefts at local car dealerships (Vorva, 2022).
