ABSTRACT

Naperville, IL, is one of the wealthiest suburbs in the country. With a population of almost 150,000, it is also one of the largest cities in Illinois. Its median household income is $127,648, and its median home value is almost $425,000, well above the median of other Chicago cases in this study. Naperville is perhaps best known for its Riverwalk, a stunning 1.75-mile-long pathway of bridges brick walks, and landmark sites along the way. In terms of American suburbs, it is difficult to find many comparable cities to Naperville that have experienced its level of population growth from 1970 on, when the population was about 22,800, thus growing by more than six times over by the time term limits were enacted in 2010.
