ABSTRACT

Workshop one

This is the first Workshop chapter, with discussions, reading, and exercises. From now on, the chapters are organised as workshops or classes.

Presents the preparation necessary to start writing – to read in the genre, to organise space and time, ways to overcome procrastination, not over-planning, finding out how to start.

Presents four possible ways to begin: with a fact, an anecdote, a symbol, or thought, showing how each way will draw a reader into a story.

Reveals the importance of curiosity in drawing a reading in.

Reading (Kristina Olsson) and Exercises to explore the ideas in the chapter.
