ABSTRACT

Does the Arab-Israeli conflict in its historical perspective bear comparison with the Crusades? Stretching over two centuries they were a series of incursions responding to a widespread call in Christendom to regain control of the holy city of Jerusalem and the surrounding land of Palestine. Today there is a widespread belief among Moslems that the Arab and Moslem world is exposed to something similar, this time responding to a call in the Jewish world: the call of Zionism to establish a national home for world Jewry — also in the land of Palestine.
