ABSTRACT
This history of the concept of anomie has veered between two aims: the recovery of specific meanings of anomie in various socio-historical contexts in Western culture, and the drawing of diachronic similarities in the literature on anomie. In these final remarks I want to bring the two strands together and show their commonality.
