ABSTRACT

Irl analysing the community of school it is well to remember not only the formula of coexistence (Ch. IX) but also the definition of education (Ch. V) as “the provision of conditions suitable to further evolution.” There are two forces to consider, (1) the desire to model the school upon the generally accepted idea of community, (2) the will to base its organisation upon human needs. Keeping these factors in mind, we may now proceed to examine our material, simplifying the process at the outset by choosing a boarding school in the country. It is more isolated, and shows the essential features of the organism all the more clearly because it is so.
