ABSTRACT
Ukraine recaptured some of the territory Russia took in the opening days of the full-scale invasion of its neighbour that began in February 2022. Kyiv’s troops failed in their efforts, though, to achieve an all-out breakthrough against Russia’s heavily entrenched defensive lines in 2023. Russia attempted counterattacks, suffering heavy losses. Ukraine also conducted numerous deep strikes using UAVs, including on Moscow and logistics targets.
