ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 introduces juvenile lifers as the topic of which juveniles ended up with life without the possibility of parole sentences is discussed. Several people who committed crimes as juveniles are introduced and their stories are told in introducing an explication of possible reasons why they received those sentences. Various possible reasons are advanced for why certain juveniles received harsh sentences and others didn’t. Obviously, one of those issues is race, but we look at other possible reasons as well. Those other reasons involve politics, social psychology and marginalized youth.
