ABSTRACT

The author explains she worked in a children’s hospital at the beginning of her social work career and spent a lot of time with children who were dying; many of them had been diagnosed with leukaemia, other forms of cancer or had brain tumours. A lot of time was spent talking to children of all ages about their pending death. A commonality was that many of the children would see a man in the corner of the room before passing away. Years later the script was written for a child of any age and the child does not have to have any religious beliefs or believe there is a heaven. The objective is for the child to imagine the man in the corner and talk to him in order to achieve the feeling of being peaceful and not being afraid. However, there is no reason why the script could not be used for an adult who does have religious or spiritual beliefs.
