ABSTRACT

One of the most common problems presented to a hypnotherapist is the loss of confidence or someone saying they have never been a confident person and their self-esteem is really low. Experiencing any loss can result in a person feeling less confident, unsure what to do and questioning themselves. It is going to be even harder for someone who has never had any self-belief or confidence in themselves. When working on building confidence and self-esteem it can be beneficial to include a specific session on being assertive. The script considers rights, teaches some basic assertive skills and helps the client confront situations they might previously have avoided. Appendix 38.1 is a handout about rights. Appendix 38.2 is a form which can be used by the hypnotherapist to list the original rights, any personal rights the client developed and mantras created during the hypnotherapy session. The form can be used during a session to make notes. It can then be typed up properly afterwards and a copy given to the client to keep.
