ABSTRACT

This chapter first discusses the established stages of grief (and related works) which were originally developed by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross and Colin Murray Parkes and have been used for decades. The main purpose of the chapter is to introduce the concept of the Journey of Grief (which is used throughout the book and in the scripts). This is done by presenting five visualisations which can be used to help the client understand that different emotions and pain, which could be experienced on their own journey (e.g. difficulty in facing things; bumpy ride; despair; anger; avoidance/denial).
