ABSTRACT

One often hears that India is the most regulated country in the world, albeit with a judicial system that is one of the most sluggish, given the number of cases received in various courts and the pendency that is over 4.80 million or 4.7 crores in 2022. This includes over 1.8 crores pending for more than three decades. 1 The other reality is that as a society, we for long have been rather passive and forgiving, but thanks to an overactive and a hyperactive social media, things are changing, both for good and not so good reasons. Among many themes that find resonance in social science research, civil society discourse, and social media platforms, there is also the issue relating to the representation of women in media and narratives surrounding women in the commercial space including advertising and entertainment.
