ABSTRACT

This introductory chapter begins by defining the boundaries of the object of study, namely the work and careers of journalists working for the Japanese daily press. It explains how this work fits into a general reflection on the organization of professional activities from a sociological point of view. It explains the originality of the research in relation to previous academic work on journalism in Japan. It then describes the research procedures, particularly in the process of gaining access to the field and conducting interviews. Finally, it presents the contents of the various chapters that make up the book.
