From anonymity to the construction of a “journalist star system”

The chapter looks at the changes in the practice of bylines on the pages of Japanese newspapers. Why has the gradual shift from a logic of anonymity to the incorporation of individual bylines come so late in Japan? For what goals, and with what consequences? The chapter highlights the organizational and individual consequences of what can be considered as a real paradigm shift in the Japanese press world.
