The political consequences of Japanese journalism's dependence on the organizational model

This chapter, added for the English edition of the book, examines the political consequences of the organizational logic of Japanese newspaper journalism. It begins by looking back at the particular context of the 2010s and the increasing pressure of political power on progressive news media. The weakness of professional solidarity among journalists is seen as the main negative effect of the organizational logic. The chapter concludes with a reflection on what the Japanese themselves expect from their media.
