ABSTRACT

A series covering the ground of political and social English History. Useful for children's reading, especially in conjunction with another book, as not all essential topics are dealt with. They are beautifully illustrated, and the child is taught to use the pictures as evidence for knowledge of social life. Its special feature is that it combines political and social history by tracing the fortunes of the imaginary village of Oakwood through the ages. As well as the narrative of English History, social aspects are described and the leaders of European thought introduced. Of special value to children who are about to enter commerce or industry, since it explains how modern conditions arose. The great aim is to make the children feel the unity as well as the variety of world history. Intended for middle forms of Secondary Schools, but could be used for reference by older Senior School pupils.
