ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an introduction to this book on the training of military interpreters of the Nationalist Government during the War of Resistance. It first examines the reasons why the author chooses to write a book on this subject. It looks at the significance of the subject from both theoretical and practical standpoints. It then provides a glossary of the most important terms used in the book, namely “all-out resistance period”, “military interpreters” and “interpreter training centres”, before turning to the current research on the subject, which entails research on young students’ participation in interpreter training, narrative research on interpreters in the war, and research on China-U.S. military relations and cooperation during the War of Resistance. Finally, the chapter outlines the book’s research methods: literature research, educational narrative and contextual analysis.
