ABSTRACT

This chapter studies the evolution of military interpreter training led by the Nationalist Government during the War of Resistance in three stages. The first stage lasted from October 1941 to October 1943, with Huang Renlin serving as the director of the Kunming War Area Service Corps Interpreter Training Centre. The second stage ran from October 1943 to August 1945, when the Interpreter Training Centres of the Military Affairs Commission, directly led by the Foreign Affairs Bureau of the Military Affairs Commission of the Nationalist Government, were set up and operated in Kunming and Chongqing, recruiting students from public and private colleges and universities nationwide. The period from February to August 1945 marks the third stage, when the Interpreter Training Centre of the Kuomintang Central Training Corps was established after restructuring and expanding the Interpreter Training Centres of the Military Affairs Commission.
