ABSTRACT

This chapter offers conclusions to the book. It provides a summary of the historical significance of researching this little known, yet very important episode in China’s translation history—interpreter/translator training and wartime translation studies—as well as the implications this episode has for China’s translation education and international campaign for “national image construction” in the 21st century. The book vividly demonstrates how young Chinese intellectuals, mostly university students, although unable to take up arms to defend their country, made irreplaceable contributions to China’s victory in the War of Resistance by serving as interpreters for the Allied forces, thus fulfilling their duties and obligations as Chinese citizens.
