ABSTRACT

More people are exposed to sporting events over television and radio than at the sites where games actually take place. Aspiring sports announcers who possess only a casual interest in sports should consider another profession. Sports announcers must first be fans before they can become reporters. The overwhelming majority of sports reporters boast backgrounds, either as youths or adults, in some type of amateur sports. The primary areas of employment in sports voice performance are sportscasting or reporting, play-by-play, and analysis. The role of the station sportscaster is significantly affected by the size of the facility at which he or she is employed. The love of athletics is a prime motivator for broadcast sports voice performers. Sports voice performance positions are obtained through careful planning and preparation.
