ABSTRACT

Many members of the broadcast team have jobs equal in importance to, or more important than, that of the audio operator. Automation of equipment in recent years has reduced the complexity of audio control. Every broadcast station, regardless of size, has a general manager, whether by that title or some other. Sometimes known as the sales manager, the commercial manager coordinates the activities of the broadcast-time salespeople employed by the station. The program director may supervise all these departments and individuals at a small station or may delegate this authority to department heads at a large radio or television station. All the international, national, local, and sports news is compiled and edited by the news department and tailored into newscasts that fit the station’s broadcast format. At small stations, the operator-announcer will be a member of the production-direction department, since he will produce and direct his own shows.
