ABSTRACT

This chapter examines in some detail a variety of professional control consoles. The console manufacturer virtually always includes a specifications, or spec, sheet in the advertising material printed about a console. The chapter describes three consoles made by Broadcast Electronics: models 4M50A, 10S250, and 10S350. ADM consoles are completely modular and permit a particularly close look at their modules. The input modules containing input-level setting switch, pot, key, preamplifier, assignment switching, and signal processing plug into this large circuit board, as do the modules with a monitor amplifier, a program amplifier, a line amplifier, and a distribution amplifier. The noise-suppressor module is a true gain expander with continuously varying gain. Studer Revox is a Swiss company that makes tape recorders and system controllers as well as consoles. All inputs and subgroups are provided with a four-band Formant spectrum equalizer, high- and low-pass filters, and limiter-compressor.
