ABSTRACT

Console inputs are outputs of other devices that feed their signal into a console. Broadcast and recording company executives who control the purse strings are loathe to discard anything technical or replace anything that still works. Thus most broadcast facilities still use microphones that are 15 to 20 years old. Cart playback has replaced record turntables for playback of recorded commercial announcements, program themes, and openings, bridges, and fanfares. Tone arms and phono cartridges are often purchased separately from the turntables on which they are used. Playback of CDs begins with loading a CD into the player. Tape playback is the second most important tool in the audio operator’s hand, with only console itself taking first place. A professional analog open-reel tape machine has two integral sections or parts: the tape transport, or puller, and the electronics, or logic, section.
