ABSTRACT

This chapter deals with elements that are crucial in the translation process. Translators need to adopt a holistic approach when embarking on a translation, which is broader than just the text that must be translated and aims to achieve an end product desirable and acceptable to the initiator and/or commissioner of the translation, as well as the target audience. The translator translates a text from one language into another. A text is a cluster of words, spoken or written, of any length that reads or sounds as a cohesive whole. Cohesion, linguistically speaking, is what connects words to one another or sentences to each other in order to give meaning. While grammatical cohesive elements ensure the grammatical nature of the text, lexical cohesive elements are considered to create or enrich the texture of the text. All these cohesive elements guarantee textual integrity.
