ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on new concepts, practices and theories that are evident in the discipline of translation. Various scholars have recently contributed to important elements of translation studies, and this has led to a burgeoning of the discipline. The chapter discusses a few of the latest trends: professional theory of translation; risk in translation; cultural turn; machine translation; and corpus-based translation. Unprofessional translation is where translation is seen simply as a way of learning a new language as a component of foreign language teaching and learning. Professional translation, on the other hand, views translation as a profession, as interdisciplinary and as an academic discipline worthy of study. Languages constantly evolve as must the practice of translation and this is influenced by several aspects. Culture poses a challenge to translators when they are translating texts between languages of different cultures.
