ABSTRACT

Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research conducted on India's creative industries ecosystem and policy frameworks. The chapter outlines the objectives and approach of the study, including the use of reliable data, identification of areas of strength and growth, review of national and regional policies and analysis of market shifts and trends. The chapter also discusses the importance of understanding definitions and terminology related to the creative industries. The concept of the creative economy is explored, along with the definition of creative industries according to the UK government. The chapter highlights the focus on innovation and the adoption of the Oslo Manual's definition. The methodology section explains the phased process used in the research, including stakeholder discussions, sector scans and filtering of data, and deep dives into specific areas. The chapter concludes by discussing the UK and Indian contexts, including the prioritisation of creative industries in both countries and the efforts towards an India-UK trade agreement.
