ABSTRACT

This chapter gives an overview of stress, its types, signs, and symptoms with a special focus on organizational stress. It also provides insights into the causes of stress and methodologies adopted to handle them. The general adaptation syndrome for stress stage-wise reflects alarm reaction, followed by resistance and exhaustion, and in the succeeding section draws a relation between stress and performance level, with levels as low, moderate, and high. The type of organizational stress as acute, episodic acute, and chronic and their organizational and non-organizational causes are aptly described along with the importance of undertaking meditation in order to relieve them.
