ABSTRACT
The previous chapter provided global information concerning the use made of the strategies by groups of individuals across a variety of tasks. This approach was useful when the aim was to describe characteristics of the outcome of performance, such as the time taken to solve problems and the type and the variety of problem solving strategies applied by different groups of subjects. The present chapter describes the results of attempts made to identify and classify certain attributes of the problem solving process itself.
