ABSTRACT

The content of this book has been presented in four parts. The first of these traces theoretical and methodological developments in the areas of intelligence and problem solving. Conceptual frameworks for the non- cumulative research literature in both domains are provided and ways in which research relating to individual differences in problem solving might contribute to the development of process related theories of intelligence are suggested. The second part of the book describes and discusses all aspects of the research methodology and organization of an empirical study of component processes of intellectual performance, and the development of a taxonomy of problem solving operations. A report on the reliability of the taxonomy and the chapters presenting the findings of the study based on converging methods of data analysis are contained in the third part.
