ABSTRACT

Because all children love and adore making sound, silence, and listening, it makes no difference if a child has special needs or not. Sound simply does what it does and transforms into a profound educational tool that develops EFs, SEL, active listening skills, mindfulness, reflection, agency, independence, and raises self-esteem. It’s not what a child can’t do that makes the difference; it’s what a child can do, and making an intentional sound in a deliberate way is always play-based and inspires, focuses, and engages them. Sound-making is just a part of our DNA, our shared human experience, and provides ALL children with the opportunity to take agency, control their environment, and internalize that how and what they do matters.
