ABSTRACT

Education is locked in a hand to hand struggle with control policies. Politicians, statesmen, educators, health professionals, media professionals, lawyers, the beverage trade, the advertising trade, the taxman, the scientist, the town planner, the publican, the policeman, the drinker and the drunk: all have a part to play in influencing the way in which prevention succeeds or fails. Although the technique and the results vary somewhat from debate to debate, the way we prepared the ground was broadly similar in each case. Sometimes we sent that reaction back to the first respondent and sometimes we sent both the initial response and the reaction on to a third contributor, who was asked to comment upon both. There are a multitude of different alcohol problems and there are probably multiple solutions to that multitude of problems.
