ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the inclusion of gender and UNSCR 1325 in the traditional peacekeeping mission context of Lebanon. The first explicit references to gender and women's sex desegregation in mission reporting occurred after the launch of UN gender guidelines for the military, piloted in UNIFIL in 2014. The UN mission explicitly supported female candidates in local elections, with some gaining positions. The 2022 parliamentary elections secured eight seats for women, who still only represent 6.25% of the parliament in Lebanon.
