ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the main issues that emerged from the interview data, which are categorized and synthesized. The participants’ voices are central and constitute an important source of evidence for this research that details how gender mainstreaming and UNSCR 1325 were understood in principle and subsequently interpreted in practice by those responsible for its implementation. It also analyses the factors interviewees identified as hindering or assisting their progress. This chapter conducts a final assessment of the current state of UN structures post-study and summarizes conclusions drawn from the examination of the legal and policy terrain, case studies and primary data. It draws conclusions about coherence on the ground compared to policy and political rhetoric.
