ABSTRACT

Two of the jobs specific to globalcasts are preshow surveyor and remote producer. By definition these positions function by themselves, away from home base. The people filling these positions have to have such a total comprehension of and immersion in the production that they can fit the distant remote segment meaningfully into a coherent whole. The staff members who are dispatched “out there” have to be so competent and so well briefed that they can foresee all of the what-ifs an executive producer is expected to foresee, and be prepared to solve problems no one could foresee. Globalcasts may encounter restrictions imposed by PTTs—Ministries of Post, Telephone and Telegraph. In some countries these government agencies enforce financial, union, or geographical restrictions or restrictions on coverage. Follow-up on those initial contacts and plans, however, becomes the job of the on-site producer.
