ABSTRACT

In terms of booking and scheduling talent for fully commercial multi-venue globalcasts, you aim for the stars who fit both your budget and the concept of the show. For shows seeking unpaid talent, the usual pattern is to aim for top stars who espouse the cause. If you can get a commitment from one major performer, that usually inspires willingness on the part of other stars to join the show. Brazil was a live satellite feed. For a variety of reasons it was impossible to pretape Gilberto Gil’s performances in Rio, so we had to create other taped standby performances, which were put on a standby reel. Standby copy was written for Rolland Smith. Europe was all tape, but the only satellite time we could book—after their taping in multiple locations—was one hour before we went on the air.
